MY FASCINATION
Playing classical guitar as a child, and mastering flamenco guitar in later years, I developed a fascination for both the beauty and complexity of sound and acoustic interactions. I choose a career in environmental science, but music remained my other passion. My interest in audio reproduction initiated in my student years with my first audiophile stereo set. It never went away.
GAINING KNOWLEDGE
After having worked over 20 years for an international consultancy firm , I devoted a 2 year sabbatical to studying, and conducting personal research into sound reproduction and (psycho)acoustics. I got spectacular results sending extracted ambient cues from stereo recordings to height speakers. Around that time (2014) immersive sound was entering the market with Auro3D and Dolby Atmos.
BUILDING A NETWORK
To keep updated on all these exciting developments, I joined the Audio & Video Science forum (avs.com) and was a regular visitor to professional exhibitions (ISE, IBC). I soon became a knowledgeable person (aka "the scientist") open to learn and share. One of my publications describes a stepwise mathematical approach for creating a format agnostic immersive speaker layout. I met all those great people sharing the same passion, and gained a wealth of insight into technologies and markets.
STARTING UP
In 2016, I decided I wanted to share my experience, and bring it to the homes of other people. I set my ambition to be the Number One immersive audio specialist in the region, and a commercial provider of that breathtaking sound. I would enter the market with a unique focus: Big Sound in Small Rooms. My approach convinced the parties I wanted to start working with, to join in: Trinnov, Procella and ATI. Advanced HomeCinemaSound was born, getting ready to step into the world.
THE LAUNCHING
Great things take time (and money). The past three years were marked by: transforming part of our home into a separate business space, selecting nothing but the best of equipment, engineering a sound laboratory, getting yearly training from audio guru Gerry Lemay (Home Acoustics Alliance), and keeping up with the ongoing developments in immersive audio.
And now, when IMAX making its way to the consumer market, and streaming services are adopting Dolby Atmos, Advanced HomeCinemaSound is at the verge of opening its doors.
WORD OF THANKS
I want to express my special gratitude to Gerard Brouwer (HomeCinemaProjects and Procella) for his trust and enthousiasm during the whole start-up, the people at Trinnov (Arnaud L, Arnaud D, Tom and Jon) for their continuous advice and support, and last but not least, my dear wife Linda for joining me in this adventure and being such a critical listener.
And thank you
for reading my story.
